WEEK 9 Reflection: Dr.Weighills Talk

I personally had a lot of positive feelings walking away from Tharons speech this afternoon. Yes, he had a dominant personality and although it is easy for most to be offended he raised a lot of major points. Perhaps for myself, it was easily relatable. I have always believed in a higher power but I was never able to justify it as God for I too believe religion has been synthesized into a corporate structure. Tharon relates this idea when he states, “being a human being is living in the natural way with the vibrations of life.” We are not alone; rather we are all as one with the nature of life. It’s contradicting to see so many American families take trips to places like The Grand Canyon or Yosemite Park and undermine its value. Rather than searching for peace and marveling at nature’s beauty it becomes less than that. In a sense, it can only be viewed in its simplicity rather than its vast complexity. Needless to say I am sure this is only accurate for some and not most.
I had an opportunity to speak with Dr.Weighill after his speech. I felt compelled to speak with him after shedding some light onto the bridge we stand on between the modern world and our spiritual world. I explained to him that at times I find myself too conscious of negative experiences rather than being able to find my center in our natural world. He exemplified this notion in his speech when he stated, “If you don’t live your life at the degree of scrutiny, you are only getting screwed.” He lead me to believe that as a women it is my self-worth and dignity that I must focus on first, and how I can apply this confidence never forgetting that in order to make a change, it starts with me and nobody else. While some found Tharon to be contradicting and biased, I was able to view is humble strength and look forward to staying in contact with him as well.
